Muzika ~ The Science of Music

A few days ago, I went running on the treadmill, and for the first time, I ran with my iPod playing my newly compiled Workout playlist (including dance-y tunes from Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas, Mika, Pitbull, Rihanna and many more) I managed to power through half an hour, no problem. Normally after the 20 min mark, I’d get really tired and bored and give up. However, with the headphones on, just following the beat of the music alone made me run a bit faster than usual….. The powers of music!

As far back as I can remember, I’ve always had music in my life and I can’t imagine a world without music! Even as I am writing this blog post, I’m playing Sara Bareilles’s album on my iTunes.

Have you ever wondered though, how a piano works or how a guitar produces sound, and how these instruments come together to create music? If you’ve ever had any one of those questions in mind, well, I found something which might interest you!

There is an exhibition happening at Petrosains right now that aims to explain music scientifically – MUZIKA! Apparently this exhibition has items that you can play with while understanding the principles of science behind an instrument, like say the guitar. They even have air guitars and turntables for us to experiment with!!

Here are some of the exhibition highlights. Each one of them helping us understand more of the science behind music.

There’s even a contest for you to win some awesome prizes after you visit the exhibition!

All you need to do is go visit the exhibition and then log on to the contest page here, answer 5 simple questions, write a slogan and you’ll be on your way to winning some PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii or iPod Touch!

The Muzika exhibition is on from now till the 31st March 2010, so you still have plenty of time to visit! Below are the Admission Rates and the hours of operation if you’re interested!

Petrosains is located at Level 4, Suria KLCC. So, whenever you’re in KL, do drop by and experience this one of a kind exhibition for yourselves!!

Maybe once you understand the science behind music, you can start your own band!!

Rock on down to MUZIKA now!!!!

Love, Bel
