At a young age, growing up in Kuching, Sarawak, Belinda loved performing on stage. Speech competitions, school plays and even singing contests – she was up for anything. Her interest soon shifted to the sporting arena when she was 8 years old – that was when she discovered her love for swimming. She swam competitively, representing Sarawak and Malaysia, for about 8 years before retiring from competitive swimming to concentrate on her studies.
Her love for performing was never forgotten. Having spent most of her childhood and adolescent life trying to prove her strength in the swimming pool, she missed the adrenaline rush. It was only natural for her to try her hand at something new and challenging. Upon returning from Australia after obtaining a degree in Media and Communications, Belinda entered Astro Hitz.TV’s UVJ Search – a reality show in search of a new VJ for the channel. She didn’t end up winning the job but got a lot of exposure and recognition from being on the show.
Belinda started her hosting career hosting several shows on Astro’s Hitz.TV, before being selected to host ‘Teman’ a travel show on 8TV. Since then, her career has gone from strength to strength as she hosts various shows and events for 8TV like the ‘8TV Quickie’, ‘Teman 2’, ‘The Ultimate Prom Nite’ and ‘8TV’s Rockin’ Birthday Concert’.
Belinda is also a sought after event emcee and is a member of the Voice Guild of Malaysia as an active voice over talent. Having acted in various TV Commercials since her college days, Belinda decided to take her acting skills a little further by venturing into film and television series.
Wanting to set the bar higher for herself, the native English/Hokkien speaker is now brushing up on her Mandarin. She plays the lead role in one of the short stories in the second season of a highly successful supernatural drama series, ‘Goodnight DJ’ (声空感应) and is also in one of most watched local Chinese productions of the year called ‘A Time to Embrace’ (追影。筑梦) which is a period piece set in the 50s and 60s. Her portrayal of the character ‘Helen’ in ‘A Time to Embrace’ earned her nominations in the ‘Best Newcomer’ and ‘Most Popular Actress’ categories for the 2012 Golden Awards.
In 2011, based on her own experience planning her wedding, she’s helped produce and also hosted her first Mandarin reality show on 8TV in search of the ultimate Wedding Planner called The Ring Mission (幸福任务). Not only that, 2011 saw her foray back into the sporting arena in the form of a new football show on Astro Supersport – Football Overload. She was handpicked to co-host the 1st season of this highly energetic football game show and had the chance to rub shoulders with local and international football greats. Belinda was then given the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the world’s top sports personalities in a one-on-one interview show, Stadium Unplugged, also on Astro Supersport.
This multitalented artist took on a new role as a mother to her beautiful baby girl who was born in December of 2011. Both mother and daughter have since represented several reputable brands in their advertising campaigns and have appeared in many magazine shoots together.
In 2015, Belinda began her stint as one of the main hosts for Bella, an award winning women’s talk show on NTV7. At the end of 2016, she welcomed a baby boy into her brood. Now, as a mother of 2, she is deemed one of Malaysia’s top parenting influencers and have worked alongside big brands like Fisher Price, Merries and Pediasure on their social media campaigns.
